There are algorithms that are beautiful, and this song is an example of this.

Many people have heard of the meme where a Justin Bieber track is expanded 4000 times into something slow and majestic, towering and beautiful.

The effect is made using software called PaulStretch.

Most musicians these days use time-stretching all the time, as a simple musical nip-and-tuck to fix little problems, but different algorithms are needed to stretch 10 seconds into and hour than the ones that stretch an 'Oh, baby' into an 'Ohhh babbyyyyy'.

But there is a wonderful piece of software that will take sounds (they don't need to be music) beyond that double-stretch and into the realms of insanity.

Chlorine Test Flight 02 is the first minute of a song called Chlorine that I wrote some years ago, stretched and smoothed and massaged into something enormous and otherworldly.

Kick drums and acid-bass stabs become the bowed orchestra of another planet, the slowly-stoked fires of another world.

Each beat becomes a long breath, slow and deliberate. Perfect, musical and exotic in its pondering pace.

Finding a song in the sprawling, yawning, stretched moments becomes a task of curation and selection and the art, like the sound, blurs and stretches.

I tried to find a period of time within the eternity I stretched the track into, that made sense as a song of itself.

A slow start and a slow ending, and form between.

Chloooriiiiine.
